Medicine In Han Dynasty






During the Han Dynasty people believed that nature could be harmful to the human body. They also believed that the sin of desire for food can bring evil influence to their body or bring exposure to changes in temperature and environment could imbalance. For the human body, the most important factor was maintaining the proper flow of ch'i, this was believed to bring goods to the body. They believed that it would include the five phases which are the five essential environmental elements: metal, wood, water, fire and soil. Bian Que was a famous doctor in which he proposed four ways of diagnosis-observation. The four ways were auscultation, olfaction, interrogation and pulse feelings. Those were used to discover where the disease was located.In the eastern part of Han Dynasty lived a man named Zhang Zhongjing. He was a medical scientist who read many ancient books and combined his ideas with the ones from his past. He was known as the Sage of Medicine because he contributed greatly in the Chinese medicine. He helped come up with many ways of curing diseases. Such as febrille diseases which meant epidemic cholera, malaria, pneumonia, flu and other infectious diseases. After all his accomplishments he made a book explaining all his experiences which that was also another reason why he is called the Sage of Medicine.
